RESTART Breakfast and Snack Ideas
During the RESTART Sugar Detox, the questions I get asked most often are, "What do you eat for breakfast?" and "What can I snack on?" For people who have never cut sugar out of their diet it can be HARD to come up with tasty meals that have no sugar, especially if you have never done this before or are coming from a Standard American Diet. You start to realize that sugar is in EVERYTHING. Often, we are so used to eating grains of some sort to start our day, and grains are often paired with sugars to make them more palatable. So, I came up with a list of healthy, and fairly quick, meal and snack options that my family eats on regular basis to help get you started.
Be sure you get plenty rest and stay well hydrated. These are just as important as what you actually eat. Consider adding a pinch of sea salt to water periodically to help transfer water into cells. And start the day with lemon water to jump start your digestion.
Breakfast Ideas:
-
Sausage or bacon + any veggies + eggs
-
Frittata (spinach, sausage, mushroom is our fave)
-
Omelet (options are endless)
-
Breakfast Hashes (squash + ground beef, sausage + kale, chicken and apple) + an egg
-
Fried green apple and chicken thighs + greens + egg
-
Avocado, with an egg and bacon in the center, bake
-
Mushroom cap with prosciutto and an egg in the center, bake
-
Smoothie (low sugar berries + protein + fat to balance digestion)
-
Bacon and zucchini noodles with fried egg on top
-
Breakfast burritos, clean lunch meat with an egg and slice of avocado wrapped inside
-
Huevos Rancheros, egg + pico and avocado
-
Sautéed bacon, broccoli, spinach, baby tomatoes + fried egg
I feel like if you add an egg to anything it makes it "breakfast".
Sauté any veggie: melt fat of your choice (coconut, tallow, lard), add 1/2 diced onion and brown, add chopped veggie of your choice. Add an egg.
Add sauerkraut to any meal for a probiotic boost.
